Beta 0.9.0 is open

Digitize embroidery that sews like it looks.

Meteor turns drawings, pictures and lettering into clean stitch files. Satin corners mitre, fills tuck under outlines, and a magic wand sews a whole color in one click.

Free during the beta. No account, and your designs never leave your device.

How it works

From idea to hoop in four steps.

  1. Draw, trace or type

Draw with pen tools, sew a picture's colors with the magic wand, auto-digitize a whole image, or set lettering in any Google Font or font file.

  2. Refine

Edit curve nodes, pick the stitch type, angle and density, and set the sewing order. Stitches update as you drag.

  3. Check

Watch it sew in the simulator, see thread build-up, and let the design check catch problems before the needle does.

  4. Export and sew

Save PES or DST for your machine and print a worksheet with threads, size and sewing time.

Auto-digitize

Drop in a picture. Get a stitch file.

Meteor reduces a picture to thread colors, traces every area into smooth shapes, and sews it. Dark line art becomes satin outlines, fills tuck under them, and each thread sews together so you change spools less often.

Sewn by the engine

21 stitch types, one engine.

Every pattern below is real output from Meteor's stitch generator, played back in the order your machine sews it.

Tatami fill

Rows of even stitches that cover large areas flat. Needle drops shift row to row, so no seam lines up, and the needle travels under fabric it has not covered yet.

Built for the sew-out

The details that decide how it sews.

Embroidery fails in small places: a corner that piles thread, a fill that leaves a gap, a stitch long enough to snag. Meteor handles them as you work.

Magic wand

Click a color. Get stitches.

Place a picture, pick the wand and click a patch of color. Meteor floods it, follows soft shading, and sews it as a fill or a satin column.

  • Shaded areas come out as one piece, in their main color.
  • Colors close to a thread you already use reuse that thread.
  • Thin outlines become one running line, sewn out and back.
  • Fills reach under outlines, so no fabric shows beside them.
  • The result is a few smooth curve nodes you can refine by hand.

Satin corners

Corners that stay crisp.

Where a satin column turns, its stitches would cross and stack on the inside of the bend. Meteor gives every corner its own stitches: they meet on a clean seam, or fan around gentle turns if you prefer.

Mitre: both legs stay square and meet on a seam from the inner corner to a sharp point.

Thread build-up

See where thread piles up.

Every layer of thread stiffens the fabric. Past three layers it turns stiff, past five needles break. The build-up map shows each square millimetre's layers while you design.

Design check

Fix it before the needle finds it.

Before export, Meteor checks the design against your hoop and machine: size, loose stitches over 7 mm, needle pile-ups, fills too small for tatami, and jumps your machine cannot trim. Most come with a one-click fix.

Lettering

Any font, sewn as satin.

Pick a Google Font or add a font file. Meteor traces each letter into satin strokes the way a pen would write it, then sews the word with the fewest jumps and trims, travelling under its own stitches. Eight hand-digitized fonts come built in.

Real output from Meteor's font digitizer.

The studio

A studio that works like the tools you know.

Pen and node editing, layers and a sewing sequence, properties for every object, and thread that looks real on screen at its true size. The same studio runs on a computer or an Android tablet, with a finger or a pen.

Short stitches on curves

On the inside of a curve every other stitch stops short at a varied depth, so needle holes never pile up and cut the fabric.

Lettering routed for the machine

Fonts are traced into satin strokes, then each letter is sewn in the order with the fewest jumps and trims, travelling under its own strokes from one to the next.

Underlay chosen for you

Underlay and pull compensation follow the column width and the fabric, from stretchy knits to towels.

Sewing simulator

Play the design stitch by stitch in thread colors, with jumps and trims shown, to check the order before you hoop.

Production worksheet

Print the threads in sewing order, the design size, stitch count and sewing time, with a preview, for each run.

Applique and test sheets

Applique with your machine's own step codes, plus tension and density test sheets to dial in a new fabric.

Made for your machine

Files that open on the first try.

Pick your Brother machine in Meteor. Hoops, sizes and the design check follow it, so a file never asks for more than your machine can sew.

Questions

Before you hoop.

Which embroidery machines does Meteor work with?

Meteor saves Brother PES (version 6, and version 1 for older software) and Tajima DST. PES opens on Brother and Baby Lock home machines; DST opens on most commercial and multi-needle machines. Pick your Brother machine in Meteor and the hoops and the design check follow its limits, such as the field size, stitch count and color changes.

Can I open designs I already have?

Yes. PES and DST files open from the gallery, so you can add to them and export them again.

Can Meteor digitize a picture for me?

Three ways. Auto-digitize turns a whole picture into stitches in one step, guided digitizing walks you through it piece by piece, and the magic wand sews one color patch at a time where you click. All of them give you shapes with editable curve nodes.

Can I use my own fonts?

Yes. Pick any Google Font from the font browser, or add a TrueType (.ttf) or OpenType (.otf) file. Meteor traces each letter into satin strokes and sews them in the order with the fewest jumps and trims.

Where are my designs stored?

On your device. Meteor has no account and makes no network connections; projects save automatically to your computer or tablet.

What does it cost?

Everything is free during the beta. Pricing for the full release has not been set.
